Shipping Cost Preparation
International shipping is not a fixed percentage of the product price. The useful estimate begins with the actual parcel: destination, weight, dimensions, item types, packaging and the routes currently available at checkout.
Separate product cost from parcel cost
Keep product price, domestic delivery, optional services, payment conversion and international shipping in separate spreadsheet columns. This prevents a low product price from being mistaken for a low delivered cost. Any USD value shown on a discovery page is an estimate; the live checkout determines the payable amount.
Use actual weight when available
Seller estimates can help with early planning, but warehouse and packed-parcel data are more relevant. Shoes, jackets, accessories with hardware and electronics can add weight quickly. Record each warehouse weight and compare it with the final parcel weight after packaging decisions.
Understand volumetric weight
Some routes use dimensions as well as scale weight. Large boxes, bulky clothing and protective packaging can increase billable volume even when the parcel is not especially heavy. Consolidation is not automatically cheaper if combining items produces a much larger package.
Group compatible items
Plan groups by protection and route compatibility. Soft clothing, rigid shoe boxes, fragile goods, batteries, liquids and other restricted categories may need different handling or routes. One sensitive item can narrow the available choices for the whole parcel, so compare separate and combined options using the live interface.
Compare current route conditions
Check route eligibility for the destination and item types, tracking level, estimated delivery window, declared-content requirements and visible restrictions. Another buyer’s quote may not apply to your destination, parcel or date. Rates and route availability can change, so use current checkout information.
Review optional packaging
Protective options can be valuable for fragile or shape-sensitive goods, but they may add weight or volume. Decide based on the product and current warehouse choices rather than applying every option automatically. If retail packaging is not essential, compare the protection tradeoff before requesting removal.
Before parcel submission
- All items have an accepted QC status.
- Destination and recipient details are correct.
- Actual weight and parcel dimensions are reviewed.
- Item types meet the selected route conditions.
- Packaging choices are intentional.
- Coupon or route discount is visibly applied, if eligible.
- The final live quote and current terms are checked before payment.
A good shipping estimate is a range until the packed parcel and route are known. Keep the final result in your records so future estimates are based on comparable parcels rather than an unrelated advertised rate.
